- Description
- DESC: Sources sought for a one-year IDIQ contract with four (4) one year options for the M40A1 (Field Mask) (S)/(M)/(L), NSNs: 4240-01-370-3821/3822/3823, Part Numbers: 5-1-2740-10/20/30; the M42A2 (Vehicle Mask) Chemical-Biological (CB) masks (S)/(M)/(L), NSNs: 4240-01-413-4100/4101/4102, Part Numbers: 5-1-3328-10/20/30; and the mask Facepiece Assembly (S)/(M)/(L), NSNs: 4240-01-415-4517/4518/-416-0430, Part Numbers: 5-1-1001-10/20/30. The M40A1/M42A2 CB Masks protect face, eyes, and lungs from field concentrations of chemical-biological agents, toxins, and radioactive fallout particles. A mask consists of a silicone rubber facepiece with a filter canister. The facepeice is equipped with front and side voicemitters, drink tube, and eye lenses. Clear and neutral gray outserts protect the eye lenses and reduce glare and lens fogging. A hood, not permanently attached to the facepiece, provides protection of the head and neck. A canvas carrier is provided with each mask for storing and carrying the mask and its accessories. A waterproof bag is provided for temporary storage of the facepiece when required by climate and mission. A faceform holds the facepiece in proper shape when stored longer than 30 days. The mask is issued in three sizes: small, medium, and large. In addition to the preceding, the M42A2 facepiece is connected to a filter canister (with carrier) or directly to the vehicle collective protection equipment by a corrugated hose. A microphone and cable mounted to the facepiece allows interface with the vehicle communication system. The silicone rubber facepiece fits closely against the face to form a seal. Air enters the canister and passes through an air deflector into the eye area of the facepiece. The canister (screwed on to either the left or right side of the facepiece) filters out the CB agents, toxins, and radioactive particles. From the eye area, air enters a nosecup and is inhaled through the nosecup valves. Exhaled air passes through the nosecup area and is expelled through an outlet valve. Outserts are fitted with a rubber ring, which hold them securely to the facepiece eye lenses. Optical inserts, available by medical prescription, are required for personnel who must wear glasses. The mask does not protect the wearer from ammonia or carbon monoxide. It is not effective where the amount of oxygen in the air is too low to support life. Technical data packages are required for both masks and the facepiece. Canisters will be supplied by the government. Government owned tooling is available for a large percent of the major components. The estimated/maximum quantities are: M40A1 (175,000/195,000), M42A2 (36,000/42,000), Facepieces (107,000/530,000). Anticipated 5-year requirements for the M40A1 Mask are: FY01 78,000 each, FY02 25,500 each, FY03 25,500 each, FY04 25,500 each and FY05 21,000 each; for the M42A2 Mask: FY01 4,000 each, FY02 4,000 each, FY03 4,000 each, FY04 4,000 each and FY05 4,000 each; and for the Facepiece Assembly: FY01 20,000 each, FY02 23,800 each, FY03 26,134 each, FY04 22,032 each and FY05 14,625 each. The government anticipates going sole source to ILC Manufactured Products Division for this acquisition.
