Description
The U.S. Dept. of Energy, NV Operations Office (DOE/NV), intends to issue a sole source purchase order to Omicron, Inc. to conduct a review and evaluation of safety basis documentation for the Waste Examination Facility (WEF) and the TRU Pad Cover Bldg (TPCB) at DOE/NV's Nevada Test Site (NTS). Safety basis documentation is documentation necessary to perform operational activities in a safe manner. Without documentation, DOE/NV can't approve the authorization basis for the contractor to conduct this work. Omicron has uniquely qualified safety experts who can provide this review evaluation. Issues to be evaluated are included in DOE Order 5480.23, Nuclear Safety Analysis Report and related orders, standards, and guides. Omicron participated in the development of some of these standards that are critical to this requirement. Omicron also participated on DOE/NV's Safety Analysis Report (SAR) for an NTS facility as well as 35 SAR's for other facilities. Omicron is familiar with DOE's Lawrence Livermore National Lab, which is the source of the transuranic waste being handled in the WEF & TPCB, as well as other DOE national labs who have tenant activities at the NTS. Omicron's unique combination of expertise, familiarity with the standards and previous performance at Pantex and the NTS makes them the most qualified to meet this SAR requirement of DOE/NV for its NTS WEF & TPCB facilities. Award will be made on November 13, 2000.
