Description
17. The Office of the Product Manager for Mortar Systems is seeking sources having shell body production capability (including forging and machining) for the 120mm Battalion Mortar family of cartridges including the M934A1/933 High Explosive (HE), XM930/983 Illuminating, M929 Smoke, and M931 Full Range Training Round(FRTR). The planned production contract is estimated to include a basic buy of 101,555 shell bodies with four years of options as well as a replinshment option. Initial delivery is anticipated to be within 12 months from date of award for the basic quantity. The basic shell body production rate is estimated to be a total of 12K per month. Within this 12K per month, we may request maximum rates and mixes of specific bodies as follows: 12K per month of HE, 8K per month of smoke, 4K per month of Illum and 4K per month of FRTR. The replenishment option can be exercised concurrently with either the basic or option requirements and may include up to 24K bodies per month with maximum rates and mixes as follows: 24K per month of HE, 16K per month of smoke, 8K per month of illum and 8K per month of FRTR. Required inspections will include 100% ultrasonic testing and hydrostatic testing. Current 120mm shell bodies are produced by Chamberlain Manufacturing Company, Scranton, PA under Contract DAAE30-96-C-0073. Information in general to be submitted should include your organization name/address/point of contact identification, capabilities, facilities, successful experience in forging shell bodies, inspection capability, and whether the company is a small or large business. Respondees also must specifically address capabilities/experience in same or similar shell body manufacture: in delivering shell bodies in accordance with the above delivery schedule; descriptions/availability of mechanical and hydraulic presses for forging and forming/heat treating and finishing equipment used/available; and current production rates. This is a sources sought notice for planning purposes only. This announcement is not an RFP.
