Description

The U. S. Department of Commerce intend to contract for a Beowulf-class cluster computing architecture to function as a Web server, and FTP server, and for specialized parallel data processing (e.g., netural networks) using Message Passing Interface and other software. Large amounts of meteorological, oceanographic and satellite data will be uploaded and processed by the cluster in near real-time. The cluster consists of a primary node for user interaction and interface to the outside world, plus seven secondary nodes for data processing. The primary node must consist of Dual PIII 800 Mhz processors or better, 1 GB of Registered ECC 133 Mhz RAM, a 1 gigabit network card for cluster communications, a 100 Mpbs network card for the LAN, one 36 GB or better U2-160 SCSI hard drive, four 73 GB or better U2-160 SCSI hard drives configured for software RAID level 5, a US-160 SCSI 64bit PCI adapter, one AGP video card, floppy, and 72X CD-ROM. This system must be enclosed in a 4U 19" rack mountable case. The seven secondary nodes of the cluster should consist of Daul PIII 700Mhz or better processors, 256MB of Registered ECC 133 Mhz RAM, a 1 gigabit network card for cluster communications, three 20 GB or better Ultra DMA/66 hard drives, one floppy drive, 32X CD-ROM or better, and PCI or AGP video card. These systems must be enclosed in 2U rack 19" mountable cases. This service will be purchased under the guidelines of FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The basis for award will be made on price and other price related factors, past performance and quality. The NAICS code is 541512. The business size standard is $18M.
