- Description
- Lakeface/Lamb Stewardship Project Area is located on the Priest Lake Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests, Bonner County, Idaho. This project is one of the 28 pilot projects authorized by Section 347 of the FY 1999 Omnibus Appropriations Act to initiate Demonstration Land Stewardship Contracts for end result land management contracts. The project area includes approximately 7200 acres of wildland-urban interface located in a popular recreation area. The project area has a high risk of wildfire due to a build-up of natural fuels. One of the primary purposes of the project is to reduce the risk of a letal fire affecting lives and property throughout this urban/wildlife interface area. The following activities will be included in this project: fire hazard reduction, road maintenance, noxious weed treatment, hand thinning and pruning, tree planting, grapple and hand piling, burning of piles, road obliteration, construct fire information and interpretitive signs, trail construction, building a warming hut, ATV trail rehabilitation, develop fishing access, dock construction, build riparian fencing, road brushing, fuel reduction, and other resource treatment services. In addition, the project will include an embedded timber sale. An informational meeting will be conducted on November 2, 2000 at 9 a.m. (Pacific Time) beginning at the Priest Lake Ranger District Office, 32203 Highway 57, Priest River, ID 83856. If you plan to attend, please notify the Contracting Officer, David Hallen, at 208-765-7371 or e-mail him at dbhallen@fs.fed.us. Contractors are responsible for their own transportation to the project site. The purpose of the meeting is to allow potential contractors to view the project site prior to winter conditions affecting access, to answer questions concerning the project, and to provide an opportunity for the public to make suggestions to the Forest Service concerning alternate ways to implement this project throught the solicitation process. A preliminary solicitation package (Request for Information) will be available in November. Suggestions will be solicited from potential contractors and other interested parties concerning the contents of the final solicitation package. It is anticipated that the project will be advertised at the beginning of 2001 with the work to start in the spring when conditions allow.
