Description

The Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center (NFESC) is investigating improved technologies for response and cleanup of waterborne oil spills associated with naval operations within harbors, inland waters, and sounds. Currently, the Navy maintains an inventory of oil spill response equipment valued at approximately $125M, and spends $5M to $8M annually to replace worn equipment and update the existing inventory. The purpose of the investigation is to identify effective oil spill response equipment that has potential to increase service life and lower equipment operation and maintenance costs. NFESC is seeking information from companies that manufacture oil spill response and cleanup equipment. Equipment to be considered is oil boom that can be cleared of biological growth easily and efficiently while in the water or oil boom that has a surface resistant to biological growth (non-fouling). NFESC is not seeking information on bench scale, laboratory or pilot systems in this Sources Sought. Respondents should provide the following information about their non-fouling technology: Name/address of company, company point-of contact with phone/fax number (email address if available), narrative description of equipment, equipment maintenance requirements, expected equipment service life and previous experience with U. S. Navy customers. It is requested that all proprietary information that is not to be disseminated in government documents be clearly identified.
