Description

Tire Retread Market Survey. Military retread Tire Program points of contact: Anderson Coleman (810) 574-4258, Daniel Cottone (810) 574-4271, Marlon Pena (810) 574-8379. TACOM is seeking to qualify responsible sources for retreading Government furnished tires for military applications for special and all terrain vehicles. The sizes of bias and radial tires under consideration range from 37x12.5R16.5LT to 11R22.5. Government testing and evaluation is estimated to begin in January of 2001. The opportunity to participate in the test program will only be provided to those firms that have commercial experience in retreading, and that the Army considers to be familiar with SAE J2014 "Selected Performance Requirements", based on the latest proposed revision (2000), which includes but is not limited to mechanical reliability test, ride handling, and stability, and treadlife durability; perform in accordance with CTQP-441, able to meet FHVSS119 specifications and/or have met ASTM 1923 (and CATL 1923) as applicable; have the capability to examine the internal casing of the tires for "anomalies" through X-Ray holography, ultra-sound, or other non-destructive testing equipment as deemed appropriate by the Government; be able to provide expedient turn around for at least 15,000 retreaded tires per year, with a possibility of up to 200,000 per year. Only those firms deemed qualified through this testing program will be eligible to participate in TACOM's retreading services procurement program.
