- Description
- The U. S. Department of Commerce intends to determine the concentrations of several chemical forms of mercury in water draining from the Everglades into Florida Bay7 and in associated sediments. These determinations are needed to estimate the influence of the Everglades in contributing to elevated concentrations of mercury in fish residents in eastern Florida Bay and to evaluate the consequences of proposed alterations in freshwater deliveries. The Contractor shall measure the total mercury concentrations and methyl mercury concentrations in 240 samples of fresh and marine waters. Total mercury shall be analyzed by EPA Method 1631, Revision B. Methyl mercury shall be analyzed by USGS Standard Operating Procedures WDML SOP004 and WDML SOP005. The Contractor shall measure total mercury and methyl mercury concentrations in 34 samples of sediment. Total mercury in sediment shall be analyzed by EPA method 7474. Methyl mercury in sediment shall be analyzed by USGS Standard Operating Procedures WDML SOP004 and WDML SOP005. Equivalent methods may be employed if adequately justified. This service will be purchased under the guidelines of FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. A copy of the Request For Quotation (RFQ) will be available on or about October 19, 2000.
