Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) intends to negotiate a contract
with University of Missouri-Rolla to assist EPA in the evaluation of
soybean oil as an obscurant aerosol. To alleviate any real or perceived
danger to human health and ecological deterioration EPA wants the
contractor to consider the application of biogenic oils as alternatives
which would meet the requirement that for smokes with high opacity and
are at the same time ecologically benign.. The contractor will
accomplish these objectives by preforming laboratory optimization
experiments in tandem with field trials. The proposed investigations by
the contractor will be designed to demonstrate the suitability of
soybean oil for obscurant smoke production on a pilot scale at Fort
Leonard Wood. See numbered Note 22. Posted 08/25/00 (W-SN490280).
