COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 24,2000 PSA#2671 SIXTH STAKEHOLDER COMMITTEE MEETING (JOINT) FOR ENVIRONMENTAL
TECHNOLOGY VERIFICATION PROGRAM'S ADVANCED MONITORING SYSTEMS PILOT The
National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL), Office of Research and
Development (ORD), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA),
Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina 27711, and Battelle,
Columbus, Ohio, are partners in the Environmental Technology
Verification (ETV) Program, Advanced Monitoring Systems (AMS) pilot.
The goal of ETV is to verify the performance characteristics of
commercially ready environmental technologies so potential purchasers
and permitters are provided with an independent and credible assessment
of the technology they are buying or permitting. The AMS pilot is
focused on verifying air, water, and soil monitoring technologies.
Battelle has established stakeholder committees for air and water
monitoring technologies. A stakeholder committee for soil monitoring
technologies will be formed at a later date. The air and water
stakeholder committees are comprised of 25-30 representatives from
federal, state, and local environmental agencies; trade and
professional associations; business and investment companies; and other
organizations. The role of the stakeholders is to provide input from
various perspectives on implementing the verification process through
the duration of the AMS pilot. The sixth meeting of the two committees
will be held jointly at the following times and place: 8:00 a.m. to 5
p.m. on Thursday, October 12, and 8:00 a.m. to noon on Friday, October
13, 2000. Location: Basin Harbor Inn, Burlington, VT, 1-888-339-0874.
For additional meeting information, contact: Gretchen Hund, Battelle;
phone 206-528-3338; fax 206-528-3552; e-mail hund@battelle.org. Members
of both committees will meet in combined and separate sessions. In the
combined sessions, they will receive updates on the AMS pilot's
progress, including a recap of the recent Technology Field Day in
Pittsburgh, verification tests underway, schedules for future
verification tests, and issues relevant to both committees. There will
also be separate sessions the air and water committees. Each committee
will discuss technology needs and issues and interact with guest
speakers from state and local regulatory agencies giving their
perspectives. All sessions of the meeting are open to the public but
space is limited. To register or for additional information about the
stakeholder meeting, contact Ms. Hund at the numbers listed above. For
