The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to purchase on a sole source basis from Bio-Rad Laboratories two items regarding an optical upgrade made specifically for a thermocycler, SIC 3826. It is the Government's understanding that BIO RAD is the only company that makes an optical unit that can be purchased and fitted specifically to the ICycler Thermocycler. This optical upgrade allows for real-time PCR to be performed with the ICycler, thus eliminating the need for post PCR analysis of the amplification products such as gel elctrophoresis. This instrument will allow quantification of the PCR products such that viral loads and drug susceptibility to antiretrovirals can be directly measured in the reaction tube. This instrument is the only instrument on the market that the Government knows of that has the ability to detect and quantify signals from four different fluorophore-taged PCR products. The following items require solicitation: 1) OPTICAL UPGRADE ICYCLER THERMAL CYCLER and 2)ICYCLER THERMAL CYCLER BASE. CDC believes that its requirements are met by this provider; however all responsible sources that can meet the requirements listed herein may submit a quote, which will be considered by the agency. Award will be made on the basis of responses to this synopsis 2000-Q-00194 and only responses containing this required data will be considered for the purpose of determining the award of this Purchase Order. If no feasible responses are received by the close of business, 15 calendar days from the date of this notice appearing in the CBD, procurement will be named with the above-named source. This notice will represent the Government's only official notice of procurement. NOTE: Description of the first item requirement is as follows: Icycler Optical System includes ICycler Optical Upgrade for 96-well reaction module, optical power supply, basic filter set, ICycler IQ validation plate, software, interface CD-Rom, optical-quality 96-well PCR plates, PCR Tubes, communication cables and tools, power cord, with operating instructions. Item two includes a 96 Well X0 2,ML Reaction Module, Icycler Base with 96 X0.2ML Icycler Reaction Module, In-Sample Temperature Probe (O.2ML Tube Size) PCR Tubes, Power Cord, Instructions and Quick-Reference Card with a 25 month warranty to include parts and labor. Delivery must be made within 30 days of purchase.
