Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks interested parties to commercialize an intellectual property portfolio of inventions pertaining to applications and methods for its machine fluid analysis/diagnostics technology. PNNL researchers have developed technology that can provide remote observers with near real-time analytical data related to lubricating and hydraulic oil condition, contamination and wear metals content. Advances in sensors and instrumentation, microprocessor performance, wireless communications, and software have made on-board and in-line analyses feasible. Inventions include a modular, in-line "beta" system that can determine oil cleanliness, oxidation status, viscosity, fuel and water contamination, wear metal concentrations, and ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic particle mass in lubricated machinery. When used in-line, the system does not have any moving parts or require any reagents or consumables. Alternatively, the system can be configured as a field portable, stand-alone "lab-in-a-box".
