barbara.roberts@noaa.gov. The National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) has a requirement for an all solid-state laser source
at 532 nanometers that is suitable for nonlinear sum-frequency-mixing
(SFM). The single-frequency output radiation at 532 nanometers will be
doubled to 266 nanometers in an external power-enhancement cavity
using the nonlinear crystal BBO. The single-frequency radiation at 266
will be summed with light at 717 nanometers to generate narrowband,
single-frequency, broadly tunable radiation at 194 nanometers. The 194
nanometers radiation will be used to laser-cool electro-magnetically
stored mercury ions. The output power level at 532 nanometers must be
5 W or greater. The laser must operate in both a single transverse mode
and a single longitudinal mode. The laser must be single-frequency with
a linewidth less than 5 megahertz. The mode must be Gaussian (M and 2
less than 1.1). The power stability is to be no worse than plus or
minus one percent after a 30 minute warmup, and the amplitude noise
must be less than 0.04 percent from 10 hertz to 1 gigahertz. The output
polarization is to be linear (greater than 100 to 1). The beam waist
should be on the order of 1 millimeter. Our research schedule requires
a delivery time of less than 12 weeks ARO. The most critical
specification is Single Longitudinal Mode. It is the intent of the
Government to award this procurement on a sole source basis under
authority of 41 U.S.C.253(c)(1) with Coherent Laser Group this
procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition
Procedures (NTE $100,000). This synopsis is issued for information
only. No competitive solicitation is planned. Information submitted in
response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether or
not use of competitive procedures to fulfill this requirement would be
in the Government's best interest and must address qualifications
pertinent to this requirement. No RFQ is available. All technical
questions shall be addressed to James C. Bergquist of NIST at 303
497-5459. Posted 07/25/00 (D-SN478693). (0207) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0593 20000727\66-0021.SOL)
