Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) requests technology white
papers and/or briefs from industry that establish the technology
developments currently on-going or planned within industry and academia
in the UHF, SHF C/X/Ku/K and EHF Ka bands. NUWC is part of a Navy
sponsored Working Group (WG) that is assessing submarine satellite
communications requirements and applicable satellite communications
technology to develop a program plan for Advanced Submarine High Data
Rate systems. This sources sought is a follow-on to the request for
technology information in January 2000 pertaining to Improved Submarine
Communication Antenna Systems. The intent of this sources sought is to
have industry and academia provide information which can be used to
identify and assess satellite communications technology applicable to
antennas, associated electronics, modems, and waveforms that is;
adaptable to submarine antenna systems, has the potential of being
compatibility with the submarine's operating environment, is within one
or more of the aforementioned frequency bands of interest, and has the
potential to provide a significant improvement in future submarine
communications capabilities. The primary technology interest area in
this data call is for antenna technologies that enable high data rate
communications in system concepts suitable for submarine deployment.
All technical information provided in response to this sources sought
would be considered proprietary to that organization and handled in
accordance with applicable federal laws, government regulations and
instructions and contractor written assertions concerning the
distribution of any information provided. The composition of the WG
which will review the papers and briefs currently include
representatives from government and commercial/contractor organizations
as follows: OPNAV, SPAWAR, NUWCDIVNPT, SPAWAR System Center San Diego,
COMSUBLANT, COMSUBPAC, Mitre, MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Newport News
Shipyard and Electric Boat and A&T.Additionally summary reports will be
issued to OPNAV N87 with recommendations for submarine technology
investments. It intended that the widest possible cross section of
technology and systems options be represented. Technical point of
