The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, Armament Research Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, has a requirement for XM992, 40mm Infrared Illuminant Cartridges fired in the M203 Grenade Launcher System for the Product Manager Small Arms (PMSA), in support of the U.S. Navy, to include load, assembly, pack and test facilities capable of supporting the manufacture of an initial 5,000 40mm XM992 Infrared Illuminant Cartridges. If the initial quantity passes the required government tests, an additional quantity of approximately 35,000 units will be procured. The XM992 is fired from the 40mm M203 Grenade Launcher and is similar in design and function to the 40mm M583-A1 White Star Illuminant Cartridge. The Present XM992 Infrared technical data package (TDP) requires the acquisition of DLQ-152 Infrared Composition, a proprietary mix developed and currently available only from the Thiokol Corporation. A preliminary TDP for the 40mm XM992 Illuminant Cartridge will be provided for preparation of a request for proposal (RFP) upon request.
