USDA Forest Service, Northern Province Acquisitions, is issuing a negotiated solicitation to perform site improvements and construct reinforced concrete bulkheads in the lower and upper adits of the abandoned Golinsky Mine. Golinsky Mine is located on the Shasta Lake District, Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Shasta County, California. The project may also include sealing other openings that may be identified during construction. The presence of widespread joints and faults, many of which are open, and the proximity of the bulkhead sites to the surface require that the concrete be reinforced at the portals and an effective pressure-grouted curtain be installed around the perimeters to reduce seepage through the rock mass. Site improvements may involve provision of a temporary landing at Shasta Lake, local repairs to the old mine access road, improvement of access from the road to the mine workings, earthwork as necessary to achieve sufficient space to perform work, assessment and provision for stabilization of underground work necessary to provide safe working conditions, all related permits and clearances and all other things necessary to complete work at the site. The bulkheads are intended to impound metal-laden acid mine drainage causing pollution to Shasta Lake. Estimated start work date is September 1, 2000. All work is required to be completed by July 1, 2001. Both technical and price proposals will be required.
