The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) intends to release a solicitation which will lead to the award a cost plus award fee contract for maintenance services in support of the Medicare Durable Medical Equipment (DME), Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) standard claims processing system for use by the four Medicare DME Regional Carriers (DMERCs). HCFA owns the license to this system and will sublicense to the successful contractor all standard system software needed for maintenance activities. All four DMERCs currently use the HCFA DMEPOS standard system software. This standard system is, and will continue to be maintained by one contractor. HCFA will require the DMEPOS maintenance contractor to support the use of the DMEPOS standard system software by the DMERCs, including activities that support testing and installation of the software. The successful contractor will be expected to provide ongoing maintenance for this standard system. HCFA will solicit offers with the intent of awarding a cost plus award fee contract for a base year plus four option years.
