proposals for Health Physicist Services. The Contractor shall assign
personnel who are certified nuclear medicine physicists by the American
board of Health or the ACR. The qualifications of such personnel shall
also be subject to review prior to execution of the contract, by the
Department of Veteran Affairs. The physicist will be needed
approximately five to ten hours per week and be available for unlimited
telephone calls twenty four hours a day. The specific functions of this
individual will be to provide regulatory support, necessary annual
training as required by regulation, and attend quarterly radiation
safety committee meetings. Also, they shall provide advisory support
for technologists and radiologists as requested, shielding designs as
necessary, and acceptance testing of new equipment. The person will
provide insight and advisement for research laboratories using
radioactive material license support to include amendments and
renewals. They will perform sealed source leak testing and inventory
evaluations as prescribed by the license, along with departmental
program record reviews and procedure manual review. The Physicist must
provide quarterly linearity checks and annual calibration of the
Nuclear Medicine dose calibrator, well counter calibration, and
ventilation checks of rooms and hoods. They should assist, when called
upon, in the setup and cleanup for major Iodine-131 therapies. The
individual shall calculate patient radiation dose estimates in
accordance with JACHO standards and review therapies to ensure NRC
compliance. The incumbent must also provide assistance upon request in
the instructions of the medical center personnel as required by state,
federal and medical center accreditation agencies. All interested
