FOR INFORMATION (RFI) Category: 59 -- Electrical and Electronic
Equipment Components -- Potential Sources Sought Date Published: 21
June 2000 Contact: Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Avionics
Management Directorate,(WR-ALC/LYGN) 380 2nd Street, Suite 104, Robins
Air Force Base, GA, 31098-1638, Point of Contact: Tong Tang, Avionics
Engineer, (912) 926-9859. Synopsis: The Antenna Drive, TG-222/A is an
electromechanical device used to steer the interrogator system antenna
radiation pattern in the vertical direction to track the horizon for
aircraft altitude excursions as great as +-18 degrees. This is
accomplished by mechanically varying the length of the rf circuits to
the upper and lower row of antenna elements. Length variation is
achieved by controlled movement of trombone shaped slide rods within
the tube projection of the connector assemblies. Movement of the fours
slide rods is accomplished by four-rack gear driven through a common
pinion gear by a 10-volt ac stepping motor. Motor and slide rod
position information is provided by an encoder and a photo proximity
sensor respectively. A purge fitting is located on top of the housing.
The Antenna Drive housing is rectangular with a cylindrical protrusion
from the top. The lower portion of the housing contains the rack and
pinion gear assembly, four adjustable length lines, and the photo
proximity detector circuit. The cylindrical protrusion contains the
motor and encoder circuit and disc. The unit is filled with dry
nitrogen to prevent arcing in the adjustable length lines at altitude
and to prevent moisture from entering the unit. RF Connectors are type
N female. The Antenna Drive is mounted on the antenna pedestal rear
spar with four fasteners and is accessible from the center section of
the antenna pedestal. The RF Tubes are Copper-byllium. The Antenna
Drive is a high power, S-Band frequency rf steering device. Please
identify whether you have a potential, already-existing,
upgraded/replacement antenna drive. Upgraded/replacement antenna drives
will require no wiring or cabling addition or modification and no
additional cooling or power. In addition to a description of the
approach, include any systems on which the upgrade was installed, your
schedule and production capability, the earliest possible date the
upgraded unit would be available for flight-testing and the type of
pricing history that is available. This is not a pre-solicitation
notice that constitutes an Invitation for Bid or a Request for
Proposal, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government.
The Government will not reimburse contractors for any costs incurred in
responding to this notice, or in subsequent exchanges of information.
Organizations having the required expertise and capabilities are
invited to submit information discussing such capabilities in a
technical capability outline. Comments do not constitute a proposal,
but will be considered as an open exchange of capabilities and ideas.
Respondents will not be notified of the results of the source data
received, nor will a source list be provided. The response date for
this request is 1 July 2000. Responses may be submitted to Tong Tang,
Avionics Engineer, (912) 926-9859 or email Tong.Tang@robins.af.mil.
