Fuze for Mortars -- Potential Sources Sought The U.S. Government is
seeking potential sources and production capability information for an
Electronic Time Fuze for Mortars (XM784/XM785). This market survey is
for informational purposes only, does not constitute a request for
proposals and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government.
The fuze must be compatible with 60mm, 81mm and 120mm mortar
illumination cartridges. The fuze must meet the following performance
requirements: have time set capability from 5.0 to 99.9 seconds in 0.1
second increments; meet safety requirements of MIL- STD-1316E; must be
hand settable without any special equipment or fuze setters, an
inductive setting capability may also be required; have the capability
of being set at night without external illumination; and have EOD
render safe capability. Also, the fuzes must maintain ballistic
similitude with current cartridge configurations and have a functioning
reliability of 98% in the time mode. Additional requirements may
include an over-head safety feature for use with HE cargo munitions.
Interested firms with experience in manufacturing electro-mechanical
time and point-detonating fuzes are requested to provide, at no cost to
the Government, a summary of their firms relevant capabilities in
design development and production by 30 June 2000, preferably by
electronic mail (email). In addition, please provide company name,
address, point of contact with telephone number and email address, size
of business (small/large) and country represented. Respondents to this
notice will not be notified as to the receipt or assessment of the
