The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is planning to relocate
its employees from 18 separate buildings in Arlington, Virginia, to a
new consolidated campus in Alexandria, Virginia. As part of this
effort, the USPTO may have a need to purchase sorter units. The purpose
of this market research effort is to gather information on sorters that
may satisfy the USPTO's potential future needs, as well as request
products for evaluation in a mock-up environment. This market research
shall be conducted at NO COST TO THE GOVERNMENT. The USPTO has not yet
fully defined its technical specifications. The USPTO would like to
begin identifying products from various manufacturers that satisfy
generic, anticipated specifications in order for the Agency to better
define its precise specifications once that time arrives. Exact
quantities are undetermined at this time but an initial estimate
approximates 600 sorter units. The USPTO's exact procurement
methodology will be determined at a later time, once funds have been
approved. At this time, the USPTO would like to gather
industry/manufacturer information to better prepare itself for making
informed decisions. Towards this end, the USPTO is conducting market
research through the use of mock-ups. Starting in September, 2000 the
USPTO will be asking vendors to mock-up their products for employee
evaluations in a Furniture Testing Facility. Again, USPTO appreciates
your assistance with this market research and emphasizes that this
effort is for PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY and the information submitted WILL
