COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 23,2000 PSA#2606Centers For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC), Procurement & Grants
Office, 2920 Brandywine Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30341-4146 T -- PUBLICATION OF THE CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION'S
JOURNAL, EMERGING INFECTIOUS DISEASES SOL n/a POC Joseph E. McDade,
(404) 639-3967; FAX (404) 639-3039 The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC), National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID), is
seeking interested scientific publishers to assume publication of CDC's
journal, Emerging Infectious Diseases. This peer-reviewed journal,
which was established in 1995, is published bimonthly in printed and
electronic formats. Emerging Infectious Diseases is indexed in Index
Medicus/Medline, Current Contents and other databases and has a
circulation of nearly 40,000 (23,000 hard copy and 15,000 electronic).
Articles are posted electronically as soon as they are cleared to
facilitate rapid publication. Types of articles include original
research studies, synopses, perspectives, dispatches (brief reports of
original data), letters, policy reviews, book reviews and news and
notes. Occasionally, an issue will contain proceedings of a major
conference or symposium or a series of articles dedicated to a
particular theme. The journal ranks #3 of 36 infectious disease
journals (impact factor for 1998, Institute for Scientific
Information's Science Citation Index). Emerging Infectious Diseases is
currently edited, produced, and distributed by CDC free of charge, but
a publisher who assumes responsibility for this periodical may solicit
revenue from advertising or institute subscription fees as necessary
to ensure adequate financing of the journal. Publishers would also
select editors and editorial board members as necessary to manage the
journal and ensure the quality and integrity of the publication. The
current Editor and journal staff would serve as unpaid advisors during
the transition to the new publisher, to ensure continuity of journal
goals and publication of articles or proceedings already scheduled. The
new publisher would be required to maintain the overall goals of the
journal, i.e., to promote the recognition of new and emerging
infectious diseases around the world and improve understanding of
factors involved in disease emergence, prevention, and elimination.
Emerging Infectious Diseases is international in scope and is
translated in part into Spanish and Japanese by collaborators in other
countries. The journal is intended primarily for professionals in
infectious diseases and related sciences; however, Emerging Infectious
Diseases has a broad readership, including clinicians, public health
officials and policy makers, and journal content reflects this broad
array of interests. Contributions are sought on a wide variety of
topics as they relate to infectious diseases, including economics,
demography, sociology, and other disciplines. Additional information
about journal content, editorial style, and requirements for authors
can be obtained by viewing the electronic version of the journal, which
is available on the CDC home page at www.cdc.gov (see Emerging
Infectious Diseases journal under "Highlighted Resources"). INTERESTED
