COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 22,2000 PSA#2605National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Contracts
Management Branch, 6100 Bldg., Suite 7A07, 6100- Executive Blvd MSC
7510, Bethesda, MD 20892-7510 A -- SYNTHESIS OF 1 TO 3 KG AND 10 TO 15 KG BATCH SIZES OF 7
ALPHA-METHYLESTRONE SOL CPR-SS-2000-04 DUE 061500 POC Charles W. Grewe,
Contracting Officer, (301)496-4611 E-MAIL: Contracts Management Branch,
NICHD, nichdcmb@mail.nih.gov. The Contraception and Reproductive Health
Branch, Center for Population Research, National Institute of Child
Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health, is seeking
to identify organizations with experience and capabilities in steroid
synthesis. Synthesis of 1 to 3 kg and 10 to 15 kg batch sizes of 7
alpha-methylestrone are desired, following the literature (Wieland P
and Anner G, Helv. Chim. Acta 50, 289 -- 296 (1967)) including patent
procedures (U.S. Patent 3,318,929, May 9, 1967 to CIBA Corp. ). It is
anticipated that optimization is required for the best overall yield
for the literature or patent procedures. The final product must have
>98% purity. A stereoselective total synthesis of racemic 7
alpja-methylestrone should not be considered for this purpose.
Organizations should have in house analytical capabilities for the
determination of chemical and optical purity including the presence of
impurities as well as solvents. Organizations interested in performing
such work should submit a summary of their capabilities and experience
with similar projects, including personnel and equipment which could
be assigned to the project. All organizations who have the capabilities
to meet this need, should submit a brief (less than 10 pages)
Capability Statement. Three copies should be sent to: Mr. Charles W.
Grewe, Contracting Officer, NICHD/OAM/CMB, Room 7A07, 6100 Executive
Blvd., Bethesda, Maryland 20892. However, e-mail and Fax responses are
also acceptable. E-Mail -- nichdcmb@mail.nih.gov or Fax -- (301)
402-3676. Responses are due COB 6/15/2000. This notice is NOT a request
for proposals (RFP). A determination to issue an RFP will be based, in
part, on responses received from this notice. Future information on
this topic may be found at the NICHD Contracts Management Branch Home
