The National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) has a requirement to design and implement a comprehensive system to provide information on scientifically-based reading research to teachers, parents, and teacher educators to increase their awareness of research-proven methods for teaching reading, preventing reading difficulties, and correcting reading problems; and to assist in carrying out NIFL's responsibilities as authorized in the National Reading Excellence Act. The system will include a web site, an on-line reference collection; satellite meetings; training institutes for teachers and teacher educators; technical assistance networks; and self-paced, multi-media teacher training packages, available in a variety of formats, including on-line, CD-ROM, and in print.
