The United States Postal Service intends to issue a solicitation to purchase from 4 to 20 battery powered delivery walk -through, aluminum step van body vehicles having a minimum of 12.7 cubic meters (450 cubic feet) and 3,500 pound payload capacity for use in Manhattan, New York City. The Postal Service will be responsible for installing electrical connections and charging stations. Anticipated solicitation issuance is mid-May with proposals due in mid-June. Any resulting contract award is planned for mid-August and is contingent upon approval of funding by the Postal Service Board of Governors. Delivery is expected to be complete early in 2001.
