Engineering Center (ARDEC), Picatinny Center for Contracting and
Commerce, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000 intends to
solicit/negotiate/award two sole source contracts to General Dynamics
Land Systems (GDLS) 640 Seminole Road Muskegon, MI 49441 and United
Defense LP (UDLP) Armament Systems Division 4800 East River Road
Minneapolis MN 55421 for Phase II of the light hybrid assault cannon
(LHAC) study. This Phase II effort is considered to be continued
development of specialized equipment. The incumbent contractors from
Phase I are experienced in integration, development and production of
armament systems who have already developed concepts and demonstrated
the potential of their approaches. The Phase II contracts will continue
this effort in greater detail by using these existing concepts and
trade studies and refining both contractor and Government developed gun
based armament systems concepts. These studies are intended for
complete armament systems. For a contractor to perform this study in
its entirety, it must have armament systems integration experience in
order to address the complete system being studied. This includes, but
is not limited to gun, autoloader, rearming, munitions, fire control,
secondary armaments and turret. The contractor must be able to
integrate these components into a fully integrated armament system. It
is a nine (9) month effort, with an option for three (3) additional
months. Phase I of the study was completed in February, 2000. See
