COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 24,2000 PSA#2543Director, USAMRAA, 820 Chandler St, Fort Detrick, MD 21702-5014 A -- DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE RELEASES BREAST CANCER RESEARCH PROGRAM SOL
CBD-CAP-0222 DUE 041200 POC Craig D. Lebo, Contracting Officer,
301-619-2036 The Fiscal Year 1999 (FY99) Defense Appropriations Act
provided funds to the Department of Defense to support research to
eradicate breast cancer. The Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP),
administered by the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command
through the Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research
Programs (CDMRP), has funded a diverse research portfolio since 1992.
Approximately $3.5M of the BCRP's FY99 appropriation has been set aside
for Concept Awards. The intent of Concept Awards is to fund an initial
concept or theory that could give rise to a testable hypothesis. The
CDMRP is soliciting electronic submissions for short (approximately
one-page) Concept Award proposals. Concept Awards can be requested for
$50,000 for direct costs over a 1-year performance period, plus
indirect costs as appropriate. The receipt deadline is April 12, 2000.
These awards will be reviewed and negotiated expeditiously so that
research dollars will be available no later than September 30, 2000.
Concept Awards encourage the exploration of untested, innovative
questions in breast cancer. The proposal should represent a new
paradigm, challenge existing paradigms, or look at an existing problem
from a new perspective. Eligible applicants must have a masters or
doctoral degree from an accredited institution and access to the
necessary space and equipment to perform the proposed studies. All
individuals, regardless of ethnicity, nationality, or citizenship
status, may apply as long as they are employed by an eligible
institution. To obtain a copy of the Concept Award Program Announcement
and electronic Concept Proposal Submission Form, visit the CDMRP web
site at http://cdmrp.army.mil/?/announce. Additional information about
the BCRP and other CDMRP-sponsored programs and events can also be
found on the web site at http://cdmrp.army.mil. Posted 02/22/00
