S-02. E-MAIL: Ms. Cheryl Yuhas, cyuhas@hq.nasa.gov. The National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announces the release of a
NASA Research Announcement intended to solicit proposals for a new
science demonstration program in support of the Earth Science
Enterprise. The Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-Based Science
Demonstration Program will seek proposals for basic and applied science
investigations which show the utility and promise of UAVs for
collecting Earth observations in support of ESE scientific and
applications objectives. The goals of the UAV-Based Science
Demonstration Program are to: -- Conduct high quality basic and applied
research which takes advantage of the unique capabilities of UAV
platforms -- Demonstrate the utility and reliability of UAVs for Earth
science and applications observations, and/or -- Build confidence in
UAV platforms through scientifically useful UAV-based missions. The
research announcement will be available electronically on the release
date, February 28, 2000, via the Internet at the Earth Science
Enterprise "Home Page" at http://www.earth.nasa.gov under "Research
Opportunities" or via anonymous ftp at hq.nasa.gov/pub/ese. A paper
copy will be available to those who do not have access to the Internet
by calling (202) 358-3552 and leaving a voice mail message. The
announcement is for an earth science or applications result; the
primary constraint is that a UAV platform is used to collect the data
for analysis. The UAV platform will be selected by the investigator and
any available UAV platform may be proposed. Prospective proposers who
wish for information on available UAV platforms, ranges and services
are advised to visit the UAVSDP NRA web site, which provides contact
information for the UAV industry organization, the International
Association for Unmanned Systems (IAUS), as well as library reference
material and facilitators to aid in the interpretation of the
references. The URL for the UAVSDP web site is:
http://geo.arc.nasa.gov/uav-nra/uav_nra.html A letter of intent is
requested by 3/20/00; proposals are due 4/27/00. Posted 02/17/00
