26TH ENVIRONMENTAL SYMPOSIUM & EXHIBITION The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) in cooperation with the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Environmental Security will conduct the 26th Annual Environmental Symposium and Exhibition on March 27-30, 2000 in the Long Beach Convention Center, Long Beach, CA. The symposium theme "Sustaining DoD Readiness: Changes and Challenges in DoD Environmental Priorities" relates to environmental issues and priorities necessary to maintain a level of DoD readiness prepared to face any future worldwide political/economic challenges to the stability of the United States in particular and the global environment in general. This symposium, with speakers from the Department of Defense, Industry and Allied Nations, will present and discuss the ever important questions, such as Who? What? When? Where? And Why?, regarding DoD's readiness and environmental impacts. The formal agenda includes over 200 technical papers and approximately 170 exhibits and posters involved in all applications of environmental technologies and accountability, compliance, green weapons and demilitarization, pollution prevention, acquisition, competitive sourcing, research and development, ocean environmental issues, ecosystem, land management, clean air act, range rules, environmental justice/community involvement, historic preservation and regulatory implementation. Throughout the symposium, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with leaders in government, academia and the private sector who are working on environmental programs, technologies and regulatory challenges. Featured national speakers include: Mr. Robert B. Pirie, Jr., Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Installation and Environment), Ms. Sherri W. Goodman, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Environmental Security), Mr. Steven A. Herman, Assistant Administrator for the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance -- Environmental Protection Agency, Ms. Diane Creel, President and Chief Executive Officer -- Earth Tech, Ms. Elsie Munsell, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Environment and Safety, Mr. Ray Fatz, Deputy Assistant secretary of the Army (Environment, Safety and Occupational Health) and Mr. Thomas W.L. McCall, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Environment, Safety and Occupational Health). In addition, a General/Flag Officer panel with panelists from the services and the Defense Logistics Agency will address environmental issues related to their respective military mission in support of sustaining DoD readiness to include current and future funding levels.
