ROLL-0VER PROTECTIVE STRUCTURES SOL RP2000-011 DUE 032300 POC Brenda
Goodwin, Contract Specialist, 304/285-5882; Contracting Officer, Rex S.
Wolfe, Jr, 304/285-5883 The National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health (NIOSH), in Morgantown, WV, is currently involved in an
effort to establish a database containing anthropometric measures that
are representative of populations working in the agriculture
industries. NIOSH is currently initiating research into applications in
which updated anthropometric measures can be used to increase the
safety of farm tractor operation and into the sizing of the protective
volume provided by tractor roll-over protective structures (ROPS). The
objectives of this specific project are to (1) identify the critical
measures necessary for designing farm tractors for safe operation and
for evaluation of the protective volume provided by ROPS; (2) develop
a research protocol for collecting these critical anthropometric
measures and conduct a pilot study with this protocol; (3) compare the
anthropometric measurements resulting from traditional measurement
techniques and 3-dimensional scanning; and (4) formulate a guide for
the use ofthese anthropometric measures during the design of farm
tractors and ROPS to increase the safety of farm tractor operation, and
formulate an anthropometric guide to help user to correctly adjust
tractors for safe farm operation. The entire scope of work and
evaluation factors for this project are addressed in the solicitation.
