The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Science and Technology (OST) and the Hemispheric Center for Environmental Technology at Florida International University (FIU-HCET) are conducting a comparative analysis of baseline and innovative Deactivation and Decommissioning (D&D) technologies. We are currently seeking integrated systems that can perform two or more of the following tasks: (1) surface decontamination, including coating or aggressive removal from masonry surfaces (concrete or brick), and rust or coating removal from metal surfaces; (2) Equipment dismantlement, such as size reduction of gloveboxes, tanks, I-beams, plates, and pipes; and (3) Concrete structure demolition, Evaluation of the selected technologies will be conducted under standardized non-nuclear conditions at the FIU-HCET technology assessment facility in Miami, Florida. Technologies tested should be capable of being used in nuclear facilities and all demonstrations will proceed as if being applied within a nuclear facility. Although robotic or remotely controlled systems will be given emphasis, all applicable technologies are encouraged to respond.
