Brenda.S.Summers@noaa.gov. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL), has a
requirement for a high-speed recording device to record raw time-series
data from a research WSR-88D Doppler weather radar. The radar typically
operates in a volume scan mode performing a scan in as short as 5
minutes. To record 10 volume scans of data using typical scanning
parameters requires about 60 gigabytes of space. The recording device
must provide at least this much capacity and be easily expandable as
requirements dictate. The data is acquired and processed in real-time
by an imbedded signal processor using a multiprocessor system based on
the Raceway interconnect fabric. The required recording device must be
interfaced to the Raceway and transfer a continuous stream of data to
a recording device. Data transfer rate is variable depending on the
operating mode and the number of samples, but may be as high as 80
Mbytes/sec. Although raw data is commonly recorded through the Raceway
interconnect, playback is almost never performed through the same
channel. Raw data is usually analyzed and manipulated in an off-line
non real-time fashion by user workstations. Therefore the recording
device must also be connected to an existing network file server and
accessible as a standard raw file system. The file server may be a UNIX
machine or a Windows type platform. It is also highly desirable to have
random access to any data object in the recorded stream. Thus use of
standard magnetic disk storage devices is preferred rather than
proprietary magnetic tape storage devices. There is no bid package
available. This announcement/solicitation is being issued under the
Simplified Acquisition Procedures, FAR Part 13 (NTE $100,000.00). The
award decision will be based upon the best value to the Government,
with technical merit and past performance being significantly more
important than price. Terms and Conditions and agency level protest
procedures are referenced at http://netsite.esa.doc.gov.oam. Technical
questions can be directed to Allen Zahrai at (405) 366-0576.
