Officer, 202 307-0985 The Federal Bureau of Prisons (Bureau), Health
Services Division is seeking information on Accrediting Organizations
that have accreditation standards applicable to ambulatory health care
program that would consider one or both of the following accreditation
survey options; (1) a national health care accreditation organization
that will integrate the Bureau's internal review process and review
guidelines into their survey process, (2) a health care accreditation
organization that will integrate the Bureau's internal review process
and review guidelines by accepting results of these internal reviews to
satisfy requirements of their accreditation process. The Bureau, an
agency of the United States Depatrment of Justice, operates
approximately ninety-five correctional institutions across the country.
These institutions provide an ambulatory health care service to
approximately 120,000 federal prisoners. This ambulatory care is
physician directed and includes provision of on-site pharmacy, simple
radiologyand waived laboratory testing (CLIA regulations) and routine
dental care. Other clinical support is provided to each institution by
local community health care providers, clinics and hospitals. The
Bureau reviews the efficiency of each Health Services Unit at least
once every other year, under an internal "Program Review Process."

reviews that are based on the Bureau's internal Health Policies. These
guidelines, and applicable health policies are available at the
Bureau's website: www.bop.gov. Copies of these documents can also re
requested by telephone (202) 307-2867, extension 143 or 142. Vendors
are invited to submit information that describes, including but not
limited to, the following: 1) the vendor's accreditation program, 2)
price related information for planning purposes, and 3) the vendor's
plan on incorporation of the Bureau's internal survey process. The
information may assist the BOP in determining the feasibility of this
program. Information should be submitted not later than December 17,
