A -- LLNL SEEKING PARTNERSHIPS WITH INDUSTRY TO COMMERCIALIZE PLASMID PURIFICATION SYSTEM SOL CBD00-002 DUE 012400 POC Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization, (925) 422-6416 Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking one or more industrial partners to commercialize a Plasmid Purification System for DNA Sequencing. LLNL has developed a cost-effective, rapid, microplate-format plasmid isolation system to purify sequencing-grade plasmid DNA templates for high-throughput DNA sequencing. The procedure yields up to 10 micrograms of plasmid DNA from a 1 ml overnight culture in a deep-well microplate. The system is scalable, amenable to automation, and does not require expensive reagents, large numbers of centrifuges, or other bulky equipment. The cost per preparation of plasmid DNA by this system is comparable to the cost of preparing phage DNA by standard methods. The entire protocol can be completed in as little as two hours, and one technician with a commercial 96-well pipetting station can process up to 48 96-well-plates per day. This system is amenable to kit format and is suited for application to high-throughput DNA sequencing (including capillary sequencing) where template quantity, quality, reproducibility, and cost are of primary importance.
