Construct two waterfowl nesting islands, Kelly's Slough National Wildlife Refuge, Grand Forks County, North Dakota. Principal components of the work to be performed include: (a) Stripping and stockpiling of topsoil and organic from the borrow area, (b) clearing and removal of any ice from the base of the island sites, (c) excavation of approximately 4l,620 cubic yards of earth material, (d) construction of two 0.99-acre island embankments, 9 feet high (Type KB-9.0) in the southwest end of Kelly's Slough, (e) leveling and trimming of the island embankment and borrow area, (f) replacing topsoil, and (g) construction of all necessary haul or access roads to the borrow site and the island sites. Construction is to be performed in a slough area that is subject to the effects of seasonal weather. Soil conditions may be saturated and/or frozen to a depth varying with the seasonal temperatures. Currently, the slough bed has about 5 inches of ice with a couple inches of water under that and then mud. Request copy of RFQ from contact point identified above. Estimated award 1/3/00.
