COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 19,1999 PSA#2479Department of the Interior, U.S. Geological Survey, 345 Middlefield
Road,Mail Stop 285, Menlo Park, CA 94025-3591 43 -- PUMPS & COMPRESSORS SOL 00-4715-0004 DUE 120899 POC Ann Margrave
(650)329-4132 E-MAIL: amargrave@usgs.gov, amargrave@usgs.gov. The U.S.
Geological Survey, Water Resources Division, Honolulu, HI, intends to
procure a booster compressor and must have the following physical
characteristics and functions to meet the government's minimum needs.
The booster compressor must be able to accept the air produced by our
drill rig(1100 cfm/350 psi) as the input air. The booster compressor
must convert the input air to discharge air having a pressure of at
least 800 psi on a continual basis. The booster compressor must be
mounted on a heavy-duty skid, with lifting eye and forklift pockets and
have a dry weight of less than 6000 pounds. The unit must be of a
compact design, such that it can be carried by a medium-size truck or
trailer. A towable, trailer-mounted option should be offered in the
quote. The compressor should be powered by a diesel engine capable of
providing the necessary horsepower for operation at an economical rpm,
and have a fuel tank of at least 35 gallons capacity, with fuel gage
mounted on tank. Booster compressor unit shall be equipped with the
following: Two-stage air cleaner, full-flow oil filter, fuel filter,
fuel-water separator, air moisture separator, air pre-cooler and
after-cooler, safety shutdowns: low engine oil pressure, high-coolant
temperature, oil cooler temperature, and air high-discharge
temperature, safety relief valves for inlet and discharge air, bypass
unloading valve, fan and belt guard. Following gauges to be mounted on
easy-to-read and operator-accessible control panel: Inlet air pressure
gauge, discharge air pressure gauge, discharge air temperature gauge,
water temperature gauge, engine oil pressure gauge, ammeter, hour
meter, tachometer, start/stop switch, keyed ignition. The unit must
have one 2-inch inlet valve and one 2-inch discharge valve with check
valve. The unit must have a heavy-duty electrical system and battery.
The booster must have suitable high-pressure hoses to connect with the
drill rig compressor outlet and back to the drill pipe airway. The
unit must have a fitted heavy-duty canvas cover to protect the
equipment during non-use in the field and while shipping between
islands. Other required items: Two (2) copies of the owners/operators
manual, two (2) copies of schematics of all systems and a listing of
all parts and filters, a list of recommended spare parts, four (4)
ignition keys. The bid should also show the trade-in value of a 1978
Failing CF-2000 truck-mounted drill rig that is currently stored and
available for inspection at a parking apron at Barbers Point Deep Draft
Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii. The truck is an Autocar Constructor (built by
While Motor Co.). The rig is offered in "as-is" condition, and
transport of the rig from its current location is the contractor's
responsibility. The bid should show the trade-in value of the rig both
with and without the 7.5 x 8 Gardener-Denver mud pump that is
currently on the rig. The manufacturer, at a time mutually agreed upon,
shall provide in-the-field training to the USGS drill crew in Hawaii.
Training shall cover all operating and safety systems, setup and
breakdown, and actual operation of the booster compressor while
drilling. Training shall be at least three days. The booster compressor
shall be delivered to the port of Kawaihae, island of Hawaii, complete,
undamaged, and prepared for transocean shipment. The booster compressor
shall be delivered as soon as possible, but no later than 60 days after
the date of award. Purchaser may request a changed delivery location to
the port of Kaunakakai, island of Molokai, depending on timing.
Acceptance shall occur at the final destination in Hawaii at the USGS
drill site at the time of delivery and with evidence of satisfactory
operation. Pricing should be FOB destination. Posted 11/17/99
