AIRCRAFT AVIONICS STANDARD DATABUS WORK GROUP DECEMBER 9, 1999 HAMPTON,
VA The AGATE Alliance under a NASA Joint Sponsored Research Agreement
has conducted research and experiments leading to the selection of a
low cost, high speed, bi-directional databus for use in General
Aviation (GA) aircraft. The Principal members of the AGATE flight
systems technical council will share the intellectual property
classified as AGATE databus outputs under section 203 c (5&6) of the
National Aeronautics and Space Act 1,1958 amended with a newly
established AGATE workpackage for the purpose of completing databus
work in an open architecture, open standard environment. The meeting
will address the work necessary to ensure the databus reaches FAA
certification and all proprietary issues are converted in an open
standard format agreeable to all principal members of the new
workpackage. The AGATE Alliance is open for membership to all US
companies, universities and non-profits in either Principal, Associate
or Supporting member categories under the terms and conditions
described in the AGATEJoint Sponsored Research Agreement (JSRA).
Information on the AGATE project and a copy of the JSRA is available at
http://agate.larc.nasa.gov . This open meeting will provide interested
parties with information necessary to make a decision concerning the
value of participating as either a principal, associate or supporting
member. Principal/ associate members under the terms of the JSRA
perform work, make technical contributions and have rights to AGATE
proprietary data. Supporting members may have rights to data and will
have significant technical knowledge of the standard for early product
development. Funding for the work to be accomplished will be provided
by the AGATE Alliance with minimal NASA funds also provided. NASA /
industry funding to date in support of the databus AGATE outputs has
been approximately $2.8 million producing a significant amount of
technical data. Membership decisions and applications must be completed
prior to the first Technical Council meeting to be held in late
January. The details of technical work to be accomplished and business
issues, to include any proprietary implementation will be made by
principal members of the new Work Package not government members. AGATE
outputs are exempt from FOIA for a period of 5 years unless released by
vote of the TC membership. The meeting will be held December 9, 1999 at
the Radisson Hotel, 700 Settlers Landing Road, Hampton VA 23669
