the Contracting Officer, kc116y@nih.gov. The National Heart, Lung and
Blood Institute, on behalf of the National Institute of Dental and
Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), intends to negotiate a two year
noncompetitive contract with the National Taiwan University (NTU) to
continue a family based field study of Nasopharyngeal Cacinoma (NPC)and
Oral Cancer (OC). This has been an ongoing research study funded as a
task order under a prior contract with the National Cancer Institute
(NCI). The contractor's responsibilities with NIDCR funding will
include: i)continued case ascertainment based on review of medical
center files of patients diagnosed with NPC and OC; ii)continued
recruitment of multiplex families utilizing the existing field
procedures manual; iii)continued execution of approved protocols for
collecting specimens, recording observations, and coding; iv) continued
processing and storage of blood samples according to established
protocol; and v) continued shipping of coded samples to specified
repository. NTU is uniquely qualified to continue this family study
because of their exclusive access to the existing medical records and
the study populations. NTU is in possession of all protocols for this
family study and therefore is by necessity the only source capable of
continuing this research effort. The authority is 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1),
as set forth in FAR 6.302-1. See Note 22. Posted 11/12/99
