COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 5,1999 PSA#2470THE ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM WILL BE HOLDING ITS 1999 NATIONAL
MEETING ON NOVEMBER 15-17 IN SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA. The Advanced
Technology Program will be holding its 1999 National Meeting on
November 15-17 in San Jose, California. The conference will feature
in-depth workshops along six technology and economic tracks including:
biotechnology, chemistry, information technology, electronics,
materials and manufacturing, and economic assessment. A description of
each of the five technical tracks will be published in the CBD daily.
The third track summary is Information Technology. This track will
highlight much of the leading-edge research being pursued in the
information technology sector. Each workshop, summarized below, will
focus on the ongoing ATP-funded research as well as the technical
barriers and challenges that still face the industry. These workshops
will also discuss promising research areas and explore future
collaboration opportunities. The workshops include: Technologies for
the Integration of Manufacturing Applications (TIMA) -- (topics:
affordable software applications; intelligent systems Integrated
Collaborative Systems; infrastructure protocols; internet commerce)
Digital Video -- (topics: HDTV broadcast technology; studio resource
and content management; digital transmitter; encoder and studio
technology; compressed processing; system integration; advanced video
processing) Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Initiative (IMTI) --
(topics: information systems for manufacturing enterprises; modeling
& simulation; manufacturing processes & equipment; intelligent
controls; enterprise integration) Initiatives in Healthcare Informatics
-- (topics: health care computing and the Next Generation Internet; on
line health services; national medical knowledge bank; data mining;
speech-to-forms translator) Adaptive Learning Systems (ALS) -- (topics:
computer-based curricula; superior search and retrieval capabilities;
delivery of instructional information via general networked
distribution channels; interactive educational environments) The ATP
