COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 22,1999 PSA#2460GREENHOUSE GAS TECHNOLOGY VERIFICATION CENTER ELECTRICITY GENERATION
STAKEHOLDERS MEETING The Environmental Technology Verification Program
(ETV), in existence since 1995, is administered by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Research and Development.
It is funded by Congress in response to the belief that there are many
viable environmental technologies available that are underutilized due
to the lack of credible third-party performance testing. Southern
Research Institute (SRI) operates one of 12 ETV centers, the Greenhouse
Gas Technology Verification Center (the Center), in partnership with
the EPA's Air Pollution Prevention and Control Division. The mission of
the Center is to provide independent performance verification to
vendors and others that need reliable performance information on
greenhouse gas control technologies and emission monitoring devices.
The Center is currently verifying technologies that reduce methane
emissions from oil and natural gas facilities, microturbines that
produce on-site electricity, and technologies that convert municipal
solid waste into biogas (methane). SRI has established an Electricity
Generation Stakeholders Group to help the Center prioritize greenhouse
gas technology areas for verification testing, develop verification
guidelines, and provide peer review support. This stakeholders group
includes large and small electricity generators and distributors,
industry trade organizations, technology vendors, government regulatory
and research organizations, and other interested organizations. The
first meeting of the stakeholders group is scheduled for November 9,
1999, at the Holiday Inn National Airport at Crystal City, 2650
Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, VA. The meeting will begin at 8:30
am EST and end at 4:00 pm EST, and is open to the public (space is
limited). If you are interested in attending as an observor, please
