R. Gonzalez, rgonzalez@mail.arc.nasa.gov. NASA/ARC plans to issue a
Request for Quote (RFQ) to purchase services to rewind one AC generator
stator at the NFAC Wind Tunnel located at the NASA Ames Research
Center, Mountain View, CA, 94035-1000. The generator is part of an MG
set with a D.C. motor on each end of the shaft. The MG set is part of
a variable frequency generating system for powering the NFAC fan
drives. The work will consist of: 1) Verify coil dimensions prior to
coil fabrication. 2) Manufacture new stator coils per a NASA supplied
design, with class F insulation. 3) Disassemble and remove the
generator from the MG set. 4) Remove the rotor from the stator and
store at wind tunnel. 5) Transport stator to contractor s repair
facility. 6) Inspect and test the stator prior to rewind, and after
coils are stripped. 7) Install the new coils according to industry
standards. 8) Perform electrical testing to verify the integrity of
coils and insulation in accordance with IEEE and NEMA standards for
electric machines of this size. 9) Reinstallthe generator, D.C.
machines, and bearings, and align the MG set to specifications
furnished by the Government. 10) Perform acceptance testing of the
generator and D.C. machines on-site as part of the system integration.
Rigging of the generator will be required. Total weight of the rotor
and stator is approximately 49,000 lbs, stator alone is approximately
24,000 lbs. Generator nameplate data: 7200 KVA, 6600 Volts, 630 Amps,
3phase, 60 Hz., 1.0 P.F., 600RPM, 164 Exc. Amps, 220 Exc. Volts, 125
Deg. C. Total stator temp. The rotor was rewound in 1986 and overhauled
in 1996, and will not be worked under this contract. The vendor shall
furnish the Government written documentation of the as-found condition
inspections, coil manufacture and installation data, electrical tests,
and machine installation and alignment results. The solicitation will
be issued on September 30, 1999. There will be a MANDATORY SITE VISIT
October 7, 1999 at 10AM at the site, building N-221 Room 106. Quotes
for the work will be due by close of business October 13, 1999. The
facility will be available for commencement of work on December 13,
1999. The final acceptance of the work must be completed on or before
January 21, 2000. The vendor will be selected on the following
criteria: Capacity/Ability to perform the work, Schedule, Price, and
Past Performance. The vendor shall supply the Government with a work
plan for completion within the required dates, information and 3
references demonstrating capacity, ability, and past performance on
similar work completed at the time of submitting the bid. Any questions
and or responses to this RFQ should be addressed or sent to Scott A.
