E-MAIL: Theresa J. Niederhaus, tnieder@pica.army.mil. This is a Market
Survey notice. The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC, is seeking information and
potential sources to procure an off the shelf, non-developmental Combat
Ammunition Pack (CAP) for test and evaluation. There is potential for
adoption and production for armed service use. The tactical employment
will be to use the CAP when providing initial cover fire for advancing
units, prior to establishing fixed firing positions. The main objective
is to obtain a CAP that will not protrude into the users' body as the
current system does, hindering performance and user comfort. The CAP
shall be a small lightweight, re-useable ammunition magazine/container
which will be fired from and be compatible with the standard M240B
Medium Machine Gun. The CAP must attach directly to the weapon and
require no additional equipment or hardware for attachment. The use of
the CAP shall not degrade the reliability of the weapon system nor
hinder the performance of the ammunition within. The CAP shall be
capable of carrying 50-100 rounds of linked 7.62mm ammunition. The CAP
shall not cause any injury to the user. The CAP shall be capable of
storage and operation in hot, basic, and cold climates in accordance
with Army Regulation 70-38. The CAP shall contain no hazardous
materials according to EPA 17. Please advise if your product is a
commercial item. Interested firms should submit literature/brochures
not exceeding twenty (20) pages describing their technical capabilities
and systematically address each of the requirements listed above in
response to the aforementioned criteria. Posted 09/22/99 (D-SN383082).
