99 -- DEWAR SUPPORT STRUCTURES SOL RFP556-8-99 DUE 092899 POC Contracting Officer, Rena Cerbone, (617)495-7485, Fax (617)495-7485 The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) requires the fabrication, assembly, and delivery of two (2) Dewar Support Structures used on the Hectospec and Hectochelle spectrographs at the Multiple Mirror Telescope (MMT) on Mount Hopkins, Arizona. Each support structure is 22 inches wide by 34 inches long at the base and 19 inches and 27 inches high, respectively. They shall be bolted together using 0.25 to 0.625 inch thick steel plates. The majority of the components are 410 or 416 stainless steel although some parts are Invar. A few precision alignment surfaces require +/-0.001 inch dimensional tolerances. Each complete structure weighs approximately 400 lbs. Proposals will be evaluated by 1) Evidence of technical expertise and infrastructure to fabricate and assemble the Dewar Support Structures to SAO's Technical Specification and Drawings. 2) Offeror's prior experience and past performance with assemblies of comparable size, material, and tolerance perimeters. 3) Total price to SAO for Dewar Support Structures and 4) Delivery. Anticipated delivery is 10 to 12 weeks ARO. This acquisition is being conducted under the guidelines as set forth in the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP) and is 100% Set-Aside for Small Business, SIC Code: 3443, Size Std. 500.
