COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 9,1999 PSA#2428National Cancer Institute, Research Contracts Branch, PSAS, 6120
Executive Blvd, EPS/Room 638, Bethesda, MD 20892-7227 99 -- BOOTH SPACE FOR CANCER INFORMATION INFRASTRUCTURE EXHIBIT SOL
NCI-RFQ-90190-NV DUE 092399 POC Debbie Moore, Purchasing Agent (301)
402-4509, Todd Cole, Contracting Officer (301) 402-4509 The National
Cancer Institute (NCI), Office of Informatics (OI) plans on procuring
booth space from the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA)
during the annual AMIA meeting to be held in Washington, D.C. during
November 1999. The Office of Informatics mission is to build a Clinical
Trial Enterprise for the National Cancer Institute. This project is
comprised of several information management systems. The most critical
component is the Cancer Information Infrastructure (CII). The CII will
promote the sharing of trial data and will give researchers and
clinicians an easy and fully compatible way of exchanging that
information. By building this structure on the common data elements of
each cancer area, it will facilitate the sharing of clinical
trial/research data among researchers and thereby expand the knowledge
base. NCI requires the booth space (Approximately 40 booths) to
exhibit the clinical trial enterprise system and to obtain critical
feedback. The registration for such booths is due by late September.
The focus of the AMIA conference is to bring IT solutions to
healthcare. Clinicians, physicians, and informatics experts will be the
primary attendees at the AMIA conference. This is one of the largest
most recognized conferences on medical informatics in the world. The
conference also falls within a perfect time frame to obtain feedback on
the enterprise system. Consequently, the AMIA provides the best means
of obtaining face-to-face feedback on this structure in a short time
frame since so many national and international clinicians and
researchers will be available. The American Medical Informatics
Association (AMIA) is the only source known to the NCI Researcher that
has such a large conference with clinicians, physicians, and
informatics experts attending and available to try out the system. This
is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested
party believes it can meet the above requirement, it may submit a
statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other
information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in
sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party is providing
a similar conference with similar subject matter, available expert
participants, schedule, and size. Capability statements must be
received in the contracting office by 2:00 p.m. EST, on September 23,
1999. If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Moore,
Purchasing Agent on (301) 402-4509. A determination by the Government
not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this
notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information
received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining
whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Posted 09/07/99
