POC Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent, 301-402-4509, Todd Cole,
Contracting Officer The National Cancer Institute, Division of
Clinical Sciences, Cell and Cancer Biology Department plans to procure
a MetaMorph Imaging System from Universal Imaging Corporation, 502
Brandywine Parkway, West Chester, PA 19380. The Cell and Cancer Biology
Department (CCBD) has an existing MetaMorph system that is used for
acquiring and processing images from a light microscope in the
laboratory and from a confocal microscope facility. The data obtained
from these microscopes and processed with the current MetaMorph system,
is used to investigate growth factors and how agents affect
nuclear/cytoplasmic trafficking and apoptosis in human epithelial
cancer. Due to the volume of imaging in the confocal facility and on
the laboratory, an additional image analysis system capable of
duplicating the existing MetaMorph system's color image acquisition and
confocal data processing capability is essential. The dat must be
obtained and processed in a manner to insure complete correlation with
the data previously processed via the existing MetaMorph system from
Universal Imaging Corporation. The new system, unlike the existing
laboratory instrument, shall be able to process images from mutiply
labeled fluorescent and histochemical samples. The system shall provide
an integrated hardware/software system environment. In addition, the
system purchase shall include delivery, installation, training,
technical support, and one year warranty. Universal Imaging Corporation
is the only source known by the NCI Researcher that can meet the above
requirements, especially with regard to maintaining complete
correlation and comparability to the data previously processed via the
existing MetaMorph system. If any interested party believes it can
meet the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities.
The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must
be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow
NCI to determine if the party can perform this requirement. Capability
statements must be received in the contracting office by 3:00 p.m.
EST, on September 13, 1999. If you have any questions, please contact
Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent on (301) 402-4509. A determination by
the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon
responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the
Government. Information received will be considered solely for the
purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
