This sole source is based upon 41 U.S.C. 253 (c)(1) which states that supplies or services required by the agency are available from only one responsible source. The DOE/AL weapons complex has a continuing need for improved welding and joining techniques. This membership permits DOE/AL to have (1) direct involvement in an industry-directed cooperative research program in welding and joining; (2) access to a source of industrially-oriented welding and joining scientists and engineers; (3) opportunity to guide and assist the development of improved welding and joining technology transfer; and (4) influence in the direction of welding and joining educational developments.
