This survey is being conducted by the National Automotive Center of the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM), as Market Survey #99004. Responses are due by 31 August 1999. This is NOT an Invitation for Bid (IFB) or a Request for Proposal (RFP). TACOM is seeking information regarding potential replacement of the engine used in the High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). Engines of interest are those currently available for production that generate 150-200 horsepower, and that will fit in the HMMWV engine space (approximately 750mm in length, 695mm in width, and 700mm in height). Please be aware that information TACOM receives in response to the survey may be provided to a technical-support contractor for analysis only. Respondents wishing to restrict disclosure or use of any data submitted in response to this survey therefore are cautioned to mark affected data with the appropriate restriction legend concerning disclosure and use. For any potential replacement engine, thefollowing technical information is requested from firms responding to this market survey: (1) performance specifications (rated horsepower, rpm, torque, fuel economy, etc.); (2) technical description of the engine (turbocharging, direct injection, etc.); (3) engine size and overall configuration (CAD data, if available, should be provided in neutral file format such as IGES, STEP, or DXF); (4) estimated procurement costs based on the following unit production volumes: 1200 units per year, 2400 units per year, 4800 units per year; (5) summary of historical, current, and planned commercial and/or military application of the engine; and (6) historical operation and maintenance costs associated with the engine. Please note that TACOM already has initiated survey communications with Steyr-Daimler-Puch, Navistar, Detroit Diesel, and Cummins: responses concerning candidate engines from these sources need not be issued in response to this survey.
