NASA/GSFC plans to issue a Request for Offer (RFO) for the acquisition of up to 39,000 individual 4 mm x 4 mm x 2 mm CdZnTe/CdTe detectors or up to 625 large ( 33.4 mm x 33.4 mm x 2 mm) CdZnTe/CdTe pixel detectors with an 8 x 8 array of 4 mm square pixels on a 4.2 mm pitch. These semiconductor gamma-ray detectors will be procured for the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) detector array in support of the Swift Gamma Ray Burst Explorer satellite experiment. The Swift Gamma-ray Burst Explorer is a proposed Medium Explorer-class satellite experiment designed to detect, locate and study astronomical gamma-ray bursts. The Contractor is responsible for developing the appropriate testing fixtures and equipment at its facility so that the performance of each pixel detector can be verified. The CdZnTe/CdTe detectors will be delivered to GSFC in special boxes that both protect the detectors during shipping and keep each piece associated with its unique identification number.
