Veronica C. Stubbs, Veronica.C.Stubbs.1@gsfc.nasa.gov. NASA/GSFC plans
to issue a Request for Offer (RFO) for the acquisition of up to 39,000
individual 4 mm x 4 mm x 2 mm CdZnTe/CdTe detectors or up to 625 large
( 33.4 mm x 33.4 mm x 2 mm) CdZnTe/CdTe pixel detectors with an 8 x 8
array of 4 mm square pixels on a 4.2 mm pitch. These semiconductor
gamma-ray detectors will be procured for the Swift Burst Alert
Telescope (BAT) detector array in support of the Swift Gamma Ray Burst
Explorer satellite experiment. The Swift Gamma-ray Burst Explorer is
a proposed Medium Explorer-class satellite experiment designed to
detect, locate and study astronomical gamma-ray bursts. The Contractor
is responsible for developing the appropriate testing fixtures and
equipment at its facility so that the performance of each pixel
detector can be verified. The CdZnTe/CdTe detectors will be delivered
to GSFC in special boxes that both protect the detectors during
shipping and keep each piece associated with its unique identification
number. The design of these detector boxes will be provided by GSFC.
Delivery is required to be completed by August 2001. The Government
does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See
Note 26. All qualified responsible sources may submit an offer which
shall be considered by the agency. The anticipated release date of the
RFO is on or about August 11, 1999 with an anticipated offer due date
of on or about September 10, 1999. -- See Internet Note "B". The
solicitation and any documents related to this procurement will be
available over the Internet. These documents will be in Microsoft
Office Suite (Word 6.0, Excel 5.0, PowerPoint 4.0) format and will
reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a
