COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 28,1999 PSA#2397Defense Supply Service-Washington, 5200 Army Pentagon, Rm. 1D245,
Washington, DC 20310-5200 D -- ARMY'S PAPERLESS ACQUISITION PROCESS DUE 081099 POC Point of
Contact, Mrs. Jeannette Jordan, (703) 697-1274; Contracting Officer
Christine Thompson (703) 695-5029 WEB: Defense Supply
Service-Washington, http://www.hqda.army.mil/dssweb. E-MAIL: Defense
Supply Service-Washington, jordajn@hqda.army.mil. We would like to take
this opportunity to make you aware of new processes that the Department
of Army is putting into place to meet the challenges of the 21st
century. Specifically, we are referring to the processes that impact
the Army's paperless acquisition process. The Department of Defense has
numerous initiatives for greater use of the worldwide web (Internet).
In order to take full advantage of the benefits offered by the
Internet, the Department of Army has launched the Army Single Face to
Industry (ASFI) (http://www.army-acquisition.net). The ASFI provides
the capability to search for contracting opportunities across the Army.
Searching for contracting opportunities is accomplished by searching
any one or combination of contracting activity, federal supply class
(FSC), standard industrial code (SIC), and solicitation number. In
addition, there are quick search capabilities to search by the most
recent contracting opportunities posted, or those contracting
opportunities that close on a specific date. We continue to add
capability to the ASFI that will enhance our paperless acquisition
process. These capabilities include providing notification to industry
of contracting opportunities based on SIC/FSC, and the capability for
industry to submit responses in a secure environment to contracting
opportunities via the Internet. This capability is under development at
this time, and should be deployed to selected sites in the August /
September 1999 timeframe, with the first sites on board belonging to
the U.S. Army Military District of Washington (MDW). In order to
receive notification and utilize the response capability within the
ASFI you will have to register at:
(https://https5.redstone.army.mil/brs/asfi/). For security reasons, the
initial registration MUST be performed by the designated Central
Contractor Registration (CCR) Point of Contact (POC). Upon successful
completion of the registration process by the CCR POC, a log-in will be
assigned with the subsequent password provided via e-mail. Once
registered, the CCR POC becomes the Company Administrator with the
ability assign administrator responsibilities / capabilities to other
individuals. In addition to the Administrator, each individual within
your organization authorized to submit responses to contracting
opportunities will be required to register. The responsibility to
maintain an approved listing of individuals within your organization
rests with the assigned Administrator(s). Again, to participate in the
ASFI, registration is required. For your convenience, we have included
a comprehensive ASFI Registration Handbook on the ASFI Registration
Website above. We look forward to your participation as we move from a
paper based to an electronic/paper-free process. No solicitiation will
be issued. This announcement is for sources sought only. Posted
