E-MAIL: Shari Barnett, barnett@plk.af.mil. In the coming months, the Air Force Research Laboratory's Space Vehicles Directorate will establish the first Distinguished Space Industry Fellows program. The Distinguished Space Industry Fellows program brings together some of our top government and industry scientists and engineers to collaboratively apply their specialized expertise to specific space technology challenges. This partnership teams government and industry professionals in an environment where our best talent, experience, and resources are maximized to enhance America's space research and development capabilities. In many respects, the Distinguished Space Industry Fellows program is similar to the NRO Technology Fellows program. Distinguished Space Industry Fellows are a select group of highly qualified scientists and engineers who have been identified and nominated by their company. Each year six Fellows will be selected by the government through a competitive process for a specific space-related project that will last for one year. And through a special program of activities, briefings, and visits to other government and non-government facilities, Distinguished Space Industry Fellows are provided with many opportunities to build their professional networks and to gain first-hand insight into the government space enterprise, its space-related programs and projects, and the business practices for acquiring them. The Distinguished Space Industry Fellow remains an employee of the sponsoring company while assigned to the program, and upon completion of the program which is usually one year, returns to the company with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the government's space technology requirements for the future, and an enduring network of new alliances across the space technology community. The Distinguished Space Industry Fellows experience is designed to be an excellent long-term company investment in the future of its technical workforce, and is probably the single most effective and efficient means for a company to gain insight into the government's space technology programs and acquisition process. For more information about the Distinguished Space Industry Fellows program, and for specific details on how your company can participate, please contact Dr. Nancy Soper in our Corporate Development Office at (505) 846-9352.
